Speed of Light

Speed of Light

It’s a while since we had a blog post about sport, but several of us have signed up for the Speed of Light event happening during the Edinburgh International Festival.  We will be taking part on the evening of Sunday 26 August, which is the day before our festival appearance (programme details still embargoed!).

‘Speed of Light is a tremendous fusion of sport and innovative culture. It is one of Scotland’s official artistic contributions to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Bringing people together from all over the UK, the programme will climax with an extraordinary mass-participation event on Arthur’s Seat, as part of Edinburgh International Festival.

For three weeks next August, Edinburgh’s iconic mountain will be brought to life through sporting endeavour and performative visual art. Runners will activate specially designed light suits at night, illuminating the hillside. The audience will generate their own light through the movement of bespoke walking staffs as they ascend to the summit to witness the breathtaking moving tableaux below.’

If any of our fans and friends want to join us in this event on this date, you can register here

Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh

Intrepid members of The Sixteen’s walking club ventured up Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh on Monday morning, before our Handel Dixit Dominus concert in the Usher Hall as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.  The weather was unusually good, as you can see from the brilliant blue sky.

The concert was preceded by a drinks party in one of our main CORO retail outlets, McAlister Matheson Music: a double celebration – the shop’s 20th anniversary and the label’s 10th.
