The no. 16
An interesting article by Richard Morrison in today’s Times on arts sponsorship (I can’t give you a link to this because of the paywall, but if you have access to a copy it’s on page 3 of Times 2). The Times is at last changing its policy so that sponsors can be credited in arts reviews. The old view was that businesses shouldn’t be able to buy ‘approving mentions’ in The Times and that articles on the arts pages should focus on the art itself and not the finances. But times have changed.
As Richard writes: ‘What the arts world needs now is not despair but hard graft, steady nerves and resourcefulness. Recession or not, the breadth, innovation and quality of what is produced by British arts organisations remains world-class. But they must become more adept at making the business world aware of this – and aware, too, of the commercial advantages of being associated with such excellence.’
At The Sixteen we are developing mutually beneficial partnerships with a wide range of corporates…roll the credits…: Quadrant Chambers, Cambridge University Press, Northern Design Collective, HC Solicitors, Saffery Champness, Blackwell and Heffers Sound.
The choir is in Oxford today, filming in Magdalen College Chapel. They were in Amsterdam at the weekend performing Mozart and Morales in the Concertgebouw: hence the photo of the no. 16 tram. This serves as a reminder of our photo competition, in which we are looking for shots – whether quirky, interpretative, complex or simple – which include 16 or Sixteen in some way!
